Opportunities and Announcements: Week of April 28, 2014

We have an extraordinary opportunity this week to support a local organization that supports us. Phoenix Books is hosting a reading by the editors of The Best of the Burlington Writers Workshop 2014 on Thursday at 7 p.m. I hope you can make it. Oh, did I mention that August First is supplying free food? They are! So, see you there.

RSVP here.

Here are the opportunities and announcements for this week.

Opportunities

Wednesday is the last day to apply for a position on the inaugural staff of Mud Season Review. Take a few moments and consider what talents you’d like to share with this new publication. If there’s a web developer out there who may be willing to volunteer some time, please do apply!

I’m desperate for some help with getting Best of 2014 into Vermont’s libraries. I have a complete list of every library in the state. If you’d like to call 5 or 10 of them, please let me know, and I’ll assign you a few. Please contact me if you’re interested.

Announcements

Megan Mayhew Bergman will read her short fiction at Hotel Vermont on Wednesday, May 28th. If you’d like to order her collection of stories, Birds of a Lesser Paradise directly from the BWW, you can! If you’d like to pick up your book before the event, enter the promo code “HOTELVT” and it’ll take off the shipping costs. Also, your purchase will support the BWW.

Martin Bock will be one of several hosts at a show party for his work on Friday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m in Colchester. Many of you are familiar with his wood sculpting. If not, check it out here.

BWW supporter, the Vermont Young Professionals, is hosting a Vermonter’s Ball on Saturday, May 3rd, and it looks pretty fun. Check it out!

If you have any new publications that you’d like to announce, please let me know. I’m happy to share the good news with the world. If you haven’t had good news yet, keep writing. Sayeth Macklemore: “The greats weren’t great because at birth they could paint. The greats were great ‘cause they paint a lot.”

So go paint/write something. See you at a workshop soon!
