Opportunities And Announcements: Week Of May 26, 2014

M_M_Bergman_high_resFiction writer Megan Mayhew Bergman comes to Hotel Vermont on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. for a free reading, Q&A, and book signing. Join us!

For a contribution to the BWW of $200 or more, we’ll thank you with dinner with Megan at Juniper before the reading, as well as an edit and consultation (in person or by phone) with Megan about a piece of your work. You can arrange this with Megan anytime within the next year. Make a contribution now.

Here are the opportunities and announcements for this week.

Phoenix Books is saving some shelf space for BWW member recommendations. Each month, BWW writers can recommend three pieces of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry (we’ll need nine writers to make recommendations each month). Selections could be for adults, young adults, or children. Interested? Send me your recommendation (just one, please) in fewer than 50 words. The book must have been published within the past two years.

The Haunted Forest is still looking for frightening and family-friendly scripts for their Halloween themed theater troupe to perform. Send scripts by June 15th to thehauntedforest@me.com.

I’ll be scheduling all the July workshops on the afternoon of May 31st. That’s when we’ll open up requests to submit work for July. To be fair to your fellow workshoppers, please request one day at a time. We’ll honor requests for a second day after the first week of June.

I still need volunteers to take a regular shift at the BWW writing center for the month of June. The shifts I still need filled:

  • Monday 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Wednesday 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Friday 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

I realize some Friday morning workshop hosts have agreed to split that shift. Please do let me know your plans. Thanks!

The Vermont Studio Center has a variety of fellowships listed for writers of all kinds. Check them out!

Amanda Paulger-Foran will be showcasing her photography at our space for the month of June. More details coming soon. In the meantime, check out her website.

Dave Landers, who taught a workshop at the BWW recently, is giving this Father’s Day themed reading at Phoenix Books.
