Opportunities and Announcements: Week Of June 9, 2014

7-profileiconSeven Days is looking for nominations for the Daysies—their annual “best of” list that features all sorts of categories. I encourage you to fill out the nomination form and add any Burlington Writers Workshop members to the nomination list. We have lots of visual artists and musicians and (ahem) radio hosts that would love your vote.

Here are the opportunities and announcements for this week.

Andrea O’Connor is looking for guest bloggers to write short articles (250-2500 words) that teach us something “about wonder in everyday life.” It’s called SpeedBump – slow down; get inspired. Andrea describes it as “kind of like the Upworthy video blog but for writing.” If you’d like to do some writing for her, contact her at: workingwellvt@comcast.net

We’ll accept submissions for the next Hotel Vermont book until June 30th. We’re looking for one story, one essay, or up to three poems. Prose must not exceed 5,000 words—and shorter is better. Send your submission plus your bio to submissions@burlingtonwritersworkshop.com. We’ll contact you in July about your submission. Thanks!

The League of Vermont Writers is hosting “Writers Meet Agents” on July 19th. The BWW will have a table there and I’ll need help staffing it. Would anyone be available for this? It’ll take place in the morning and into the afternoon.

The BWW is also participating in Bookstock, and we need help at the table for that. Would you be available July 26 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or a portion of that time? We will pay for your travel costs to Woodstock. Let me know.

Mud Season Review goes live next week. The staff is doing great work assembling one of the biggest mailing lists a literary journal could have, so we’re likely to reach a lot of people in a short time and receive exactly what we want for submissions. Life is good!

You are now free to request to have more work reviewed between now and the end of July. Take a look at our schedule and make your request.

If anyone wants to lead more “Inspiration Sessions,” let me know. These do not require any reading beforehand. You can do prompts or simply shoot the breeze with other writers. We’ve got the space, so let’s use it!

If you have questions, or would like to suggest a way you can get involved, please contact me. Thanks!
